Pursuing Compliance

The term “compliance” has traditionally referred to legal compliance, but today social trustworthiness has become an important criterion by which corporations are judged, so the term has taken on elements of corporate ethics as well. This more expansive vision of compliance encompasses whether companies act faithfully according to the values and ethics demanded of them as a corporate citizen, whether they operate fairly and appropriately, and how they act in harmony with greater society as they pursue their corporate mission.
Based on the new interpretation, our compliance efforts are centered on establishing 1) codes of conduct, and 2) a compliance committee and helpline to ensure that we become a trusted corporate citizen.
This system started operating in January 2004, and we will see it permeate through the entire group while we respond sensitively and flexibly to the changing times and demands from consumers, stockholders, and other stakeholders.

1. Establishing Codes of Conduct

“Taiyo Nippon Sanso Codes of Conduct” are action guidelines for all company executives and employees. They are designed to guarantee healthy, trusting relationships with all our stakeholders, including customers, partners, stockholders and investors, and other employees. These codes of conduct have been printed as a pamphlet and distributed to the entire group.

2. Compliance Committee and Helpline
We have established a Compliance Committee, chaired by the president, whose function is to manage and oversee compliance as discussed above for all company divisions and groups.
At the same time we have created the “Taiyo Nippon Sanso Helpline” to help identify areas that need improvement in terms of compliance.
