Overseas Operation

Constantly expanding overseas gas business network,
Taiyo Nippon Sanso is further expanding operations to become an Asian-born major global player in the industrial gas industry.

In 1980, Taiyo Nippon Sanso took its first steps overseas as Japan Oxygen in the US, later founding National Oxygen in Singapore in 1982.
The firm acquired the well-known specialty gas manufacturer Matheson Gas Products and the industrial gas manufacturer Tri-Gas in 1983 and 1992, respectively. In 1999, Matheson Tri-Gas was launched through a merger of both companies, and this became the key to developing Taiyo Nippon Sanso's business in North America.

In an effort to further expand into Malaysia, Thailand, China, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, and other Asian nations, Taiyo Nippon Sanso founded regional headquarters in Singapore and China in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The company is further increasing its global reach, while simultaneously strengthening its influence in the region.

Having entered the Australian industrial gas market via acquisition in 2015, Taiyo Nippon Sanso now operates gas businesses in 19 countries and regions.

Securing a position as a national supplier by acquiring operations from Air Liquide

In North America, Taiyo Nippon Sanso, through Matheson Tri-Gas, is increasing the size of its business and expanding its regional presence.

In 2014, Taiyo Nippon Sanso acquired Continental Carbonic Products, a leading manufacturer of carbon dioxide in the US. Subsequently, after purchasing some US businesses and assets from Air Liquide in 2016, Taiyo Nippon Sanso secured its position as a national supplier by strengthening its central and western industrial gas networks and moving into the Eastern US. Making use of its increased presence in the US, the firm continues to secure large on-site projects in Louisiana and Texas. Taiyo Nippon Sanso will continue strengthening its position as a general gas manufacturer, as it aims to further expand its business and improve profitability in the US.

Focusing on electronics-related fields that promise remarkable market growth

Starting with the 1993 establishment of Dalian Taiyo Nippon Sanso Gas, Taiyo Nippon Sanso has founded companies that manufacture industrial gas and supply specialty gases and helium in China in response to the demand for industrial and specialty gases in the country's electronics-related fields.

In Taiwan, Taiyo Nippon Sanso Taiwan holds the second largest share in the specialty gas segment, and it is expanding its business by offering total solutions that include the manufacture and supply of nitrogen, gas abatement systems, and refining equipment.

In Korea, Taiyo Nippon Sanso produces specialty gases at Matheson Gas Products Korea, and oxygen and nitrogen at SKC Airgas.

In recent years, semiconductor and display businesses have been set up in China and other East Asian countries, with particularly active investment occurring in China. In response to this, Taiyo Nippon Sanso has founded a unified group strategic promotion facility, based on the concept of “Total Electronics,” in Shanghai, China.

Other Asian Regions
